Police have confirmed that a 20-year-old woman died as a result of injuries she suffered while operating farm machinery in Devon.

Two air ambulances attended the fields in Dawlish, Devon, where the woman was injured and died on Saturday (4 March).

Police said on Sunday that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 20-year-old's death was ongoing, and was being carried out jointly with the Health and Safety Executive.

The woman who died in the farming accident suffered a cardiac arrest and medics initially tried to use a portable defibrillator to save her, locals said.

Chris Iles, who was close to the farm at the time of the incident, told the Plymouth Herald: "There were two air ambulances and quite a few rescue services in the town. I could see they were helping someone by some farm equipment."

Police said she was a 'volunteer' on the farm in the Langdon Road area of Dawlish.

On Friday (3 March), the farming sector rallied around agricultural workers to take more care on farms, as February saw ten fatalities, including one child, recorded.
