Police are appealing for more information after criminals stole alcohol worth more than £100,000 from a Renfrewshire farm.

A Southbar Transport trailer full with whisky and gin was stolen at around 01:30 on Sunday (16 December) from Nether Southbar Farm in Inchinnan.

Enquiries are at an early stage, and police are now appealing for more information.

Detective Inspector Ross MacDonald of Paisley Police Office said: “Initial enquiries have revealed that two white trucks were seen in the area around the time of the theft and we are currently carrying out enquiries to establish if there were involved in this incident.

“At this time I would urge anyone who was in the area early on Sunday morning who either witnessed anything suspicious, or who has any information that may assist our investigation to contact Paisley Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 1553 of December 16.”

Data from rural insurer NFU Mutual shows that rural crime cost the UK £44.5m in 2017, with the future trend showing a rise as thieves become more “brazen” as they target the countryside.
