Fire crews from across Cheshire have spent several hours tackling a blaze caused by an electrical fault on a farm near Chester.
It follows news of figures released on Monday (6 November) showing electrical faults the number one cause for on-farm fires.
Crews remained at the scene in a farm yard just off Guy Lane near Waverton for most of the day on Monday as they worked to extinguish the blaze which originated inside a large silo.
The silo, believed to contain 15 tonnes of rape seed, was on fire in the yard. The cause of the fire was an electrical fault.
There were no threats to nearby properties and crews remained at the scene damping down for almost six hours.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Firefighters are currently emptying 12 tonnes of rape seed from a large silo and damping down at the scene.
“Crews are expected to remain in attendance for several hours and a relief crew has been requested.
“The cause of the fire is an electrical fault.”
