A Co Armagh farmer has been fined £3,000 after being found guilty of charges relating to animal movement and tagging.

Cannice Martin has been convicted at Armagh Magistrates' Court over four charges.

These include one charge of failing to notify the movement of three cattle on to his holding, one charge of using a tag to identify an animal which had already been used to identify another animal, one charge of failing to attach an approved ear tag to a bovine animal, and one charge of failing to give assistance or information or comply with a notice served upon him.

Mr Martin pleaded guilty and was fined £3,000 plus £15 offender’s levy.

The case arose from a number of discrepancies found at a cattle identification inspection of Mr Martin’s herd carried out by Veterinary Service Welfare and Enforcement Branch.

The current interest in food safety by both Government and consumer groups means it is essential that the government is seen to be implementing all legislation pertaining to the traceability of livestock.
