A dairy farm in Wales is the latest to be sold off by Flintshire County Council as it sells off its property estate to raise £15m.

This follows the Council’s program of property rationalisation across the county.

In 2011, Flintshire Council agreed to sell off more than 30 smallholdings in its agricultural estate. At the time they were worth a collective £14.5m.

The decision proved controversial, as council farms traditionally give young families the chance to get a foothold on the farming ladder.

Farmers would pay rent for the land and when they had established themselves they could move on to larger farms.

'Rare and unfettered'

Nevertheless, property agent Bruton Knowles has been instructed by the Council to dispose of the 72 acre holding, at Holywell, near Mold.

Cefn Farm is an existing dairy holding. The holding is made up of pasture land, farm house and a range of modern and traditional farm buildings.

Selling agent Gareth Lay said: "This is one of those rare and unfettered holdings which has been well farmed over the years and has not been diversified or have any planning history.

"It is a blank canvas for purchasers to make their own mark on the property, whether that is for dairy farming or an attractive equestrian property.

"The size and layout of the farm is such that it would also appeal to commercial farmers looking to expand their businesses."

Cefn Farm is to be sold by Public Auction in two lots on Tuesday 11th July at 6.30 pm at Old Padeswood Golf Club, Mold, CH7 4JD.
