This year NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, is once again offering its Centenary Award for postgraduate students in agriculture.

The award provides annual bursaries to pay up to 75% of course fees for selected students who are undertaking a postgraduate course in agriculture (Masters or PhD) within the UK.

The Centenary Award was first launched by the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust in 2010 to celebrate NFU Mutual’s 100th birthday, and to date 29 students have benefited from the award.

Talking about the scheme, Richard Percy, NFU Mutual Chairman, said: “Our Centenary Award aims to support passionate young people wanting to make a difference to the UK agricultural industry by helping them to further their studies.”

The 2017 award is open to students who have gained, or are expected to gain, a 2:1 or above in agriculture or a closely related degree, and have been accepted on a Masters or PhD course in agriculture within the UK.

To select the students, the award’s judging panel will be looking for applicants who are not only excellent academic performers, but also demonstrate the potential to become a future leader within UK agriculture.

In 2016 three students were awarded with a Centenary Award bursary:

- Sebastian Murray: MBA Advanced Farm Management, Royal Agricultural University.

- Craig Simpson: MSc Agricultural Professional Practice, SRUC.

- Nicholas Moss: MBA Advanced Farm Management, Royal Agricultural University.
