A new event designed to showcase the wealth of career options available in the agricultural industry will commence at Harper Adams University.

The event, taking place at Harper Adams University, Shropshire on the 24th May, will include practical advice on gaining work experience and how to use social media to an advantage.

The day will feature talks from current Harper Adams student Georgina Gater-Moore, who is also the founder of popular Twitter account @YoungFarmersUK.

The account has over 3,500 followers and features a different young person within the agricultural industry hosting it each week.

The Harper Adams event will also hear from contract shepherdess Hannah Jackson. Both Hannah and Georgina are new entrants to the industry - who have each started to plough their own furrow in farming through their determination and savvy use of social media.

Talks will include a look at the industry as a whole and explore how a variety of interests can all lead to a career in agriculture.

Advice and tips on how to use social media to facilitate progression and how to gain work experience will also be covered.

Harper Adams will be offering a look at the options available to students wanting to take their next steps on the agricultural career path including university, apprenticeships, and employment.

The event follows comments at last year's Cereals that told farmers to learn more about the importance of using social media to harness support for British farming.

Young farmers have also been told by the NFYFC to use the power of social media to be bolder about self-promotion and be proud of their products if they want to build a successful career in the industry.

The Harper Adams event is aimed at 16-18 year olds and is free to attend. Places can be booked online. Commercial sponsorship opportunities are available to businesses looking to support and be involved with the event, please email youngfarmersuk@gmail.com to request a marketing pack.
