Promoting free range earns Good Egg Award

Outstanding promotion of free range eggs has earned a family farming business a Good Egg Award and it is proof that there is still the opportunity to carve out a successful market for free range eggs outside of the major retailers.

“Tim Wood’s Blackacre Farm Eggs has achieved this by producing a top quality product, backed by a high profile marketing campaign, a campaign that has used striking images of free range hens to send out a positive message to consumers,” said BFREPA chairman Tom Vesey. “It has included eye catching egg packs, an advertising campaign which has even embraced the sides of buses and a video to show customers exactly what they are getting for their money. As a result Tim has developed his Somerset-based business into a distinctive and hugely successful brand selling throughout the South West.”

Delegates at the national free range conference – where Tim was presented with the award - were treated to a few minutes of the Blackacre video which shows hens ranging freely from mobile housing and promises consumers the ultimate in freshness and in traceability. It also features Tim’s son Dan, production manager of the company.

“This outstanding promotional activity has not only ensured the success of the Blackacre brand but brilliantly promotes the qualities of free range as a whole,” said Tom.
