Stan Done wins David Black Award

Renowned vet Prof Stan Done is this year's winner of the prestigious David Black Award valuable and sustained contribution to the British pig industry.

Stan, who received his award at a breakfast held in London on Wednesday, November 2, was chosen by a panel of independent judges, chaired by British Pig Executive (BPEX) Chief Executive Mick Sloyan. The award ceremony, held at the QEII Centre was attended by industry leaders, MPs, members of the House of Lords and civil servants. Mr Sloyan said: "Stan Done has achieved world wide recognition in the veterinary profession as an expert on pig disease especially pig pathology.

"His breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding of pig disease and pathology is unique in the UK. "During a long and distinguished career he has made a significant contribution to the British pig industry as a teacher, mentor, advisor and investigator.

"His knowledge and skills have been of great benefit to the industry and will be even more important in the future as we seek to improve herd health."

Stan said: "This award is not so much a reflection of my efforts but the training I received as a PIDA scholar then at the Royal Veterinary College and at Weighbridge. "I would also lie to make particularly mention of Klaus Jericho, Ernie Cotchin, Jet Jones and Jack Done."
