UK business delegation travels to Asia to boost agricultural exports

A group of three UK businesses in the agricultural industry will be travelling with other EU nations to help bolster exports in Asia.

European agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan, along with numerous businesses, producers and organisations, will be travelling to Hong-Kong, Vietnam and Indonesia from 1-9 November.

This is part of Commissioner Hogan's diplomatic offensive started in the beginning of 2016 to open up new markets to EU agri-food products and follows on from similar trips to Colombia, Mexico, China and Japan.

Nations from all across the EU will be represented, and from the UK these include representatives from:

Fayrefield Foods Ltd: Mr. Neil McFarlane, deputy managing director will be travelling to Vietnam, Singapore & Indonesia.

Fayrefield Foods is a British based company with European offices in Denmark, Germany and Spain.

Established in 1982, it is one of Europe's largest dairy sales and marketing companies owning and representing a number of well-known dairy brands and with a growing reputation for their label.

The balance is either traded or sold as ingredients into the industrial sector.

The company suppliers all major multiple retailers, independents and discounters as well as wholesalers and manufacturers worldwide.

All its cheese are pre-packed at their state-of-the-art packing and distributing centre in the UK. Fayrefield Foods have the best expertise and resources required to build their business.

Scotch Whisky Association: Martin Bell, Deputy Director, global affairs will be travelling to Vietnam.

Founded in 1912, the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) is the representative body of the Scotch Whisky industry. Its 63 members together account for around 95% of Scotch Whisky production.

The SWA represents the industry to governments on trade policy matters up to and including the World Trade Organisation and takes legal action to protect the Scotch Whisky geographical indication in the industry’s 200 markets worldwide.

The Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB): Jonathan Eckley, senior export manager, also travelling to Vietnam

AHDB is a statutory levy board, funded by farmers and processors. AHDB is managed as an independent organisation.

The purpose is to equip levy payers with independent, evidence-based information and tools to help them grow and be- come more competitive and sustainable.

The AHDB Pork Export Department’s main aim is to maximise exports of red meat and offal by supporting the industry in developing existing markets and creating new opportunities worldwide.

This Asian export mission will create opportunities for these UK organisations. It will provide information for their respective markets, together with the opportunity to identify key market participants to support future export activity to grow market presence.
