A young man has died and a teenager fighting for her life after a tractor collided into a car in Cornwall.

The incident happened at Highgate Hill near Victoria, in Cornwall, on the eastbound carriageway just after 11.30pm on Saturday night (24 February).

One person was inside the tractor, while two people were inside the BMW involved in the crash, on the A30 near Roche.

An eyewitness told Cornwall Live: “Closing the road for hours, looks like a tractor jack knifed, 3 fire engines, air ambulance, 4cop cars, 2 ambulances, one car ambulance, one 4x4 ambulance. Closing the A30 then going to turn us around and get off at Indian Queen’s."

Devon and Cornwall serious collision investigation team were sent to the scene while the fire service paramedics, the air ambulance and highways have also all been in attendance.

A Police spokesperson said: "At approximately 2338hrs, on Saturday 24th February 2018, a fatal road traffic collision occurred on the A30, Cornwall, at Mount Pleasant Roche, St Austell.

"A blue coloured BMW travelling west on the A30 lost control for reasons unknown at this time and strayed into the eastbound carriageway, colliding with a tractor and trailer."

"The BMW was driven by a 20 year old male from the Truro area who tragically died at the scene.

"His front seat passenger was a 17 year old female from Camborne, who is currently critically ill with life threatening head injuries, at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth."
