Brexit already affecting free range egg producers

Brexit is already affecting free range egg producers, with the falling value of Sterling increasing the price of feed, says Robert Gooch, chief executive of the British Free Range Egg Producers Association (BFREPA).

Robert told FarmingUKTV that the long-term impact of leaving the European Union would depend on what future agreement the United Kingdom was able to negotiate with the remaining members of the EU. However, he said that the fall in the pound that followed the surprise referendum decision to leave the EU had increased the cost of imports, including key ingredients like soya.

If in future the UK did not have access to the single market, there would be extra transaction costs from dealing with customs tariffs and border controls, which would also increase the price of imports - on top price rises caused by currency fluctuation.
