Hartpury College and University Centre

About Us
Hartpury College and University Centre is one of the UK’s leading land-based and sports education establishments. Established as an agricultural education centre just after World War II, Hartpury now has more than 3000 students completing qualifications across Agriculture, Animal, Equine and Sport.
On a stunning, specialist campus that covers over 360 hectares in Gloucestershire…

Hartpury offers excellent facilities to provide real world, hands on experience mentored by outstanding specialist staff. Students benefit from unique links and partnerships Hartpury has, from local and national charities to leading businesses from the agriculture, animal and conservation sectors, opening doors to dream work placements and careers.

We offer a range of College level Diplomas in Agriculture, Land-based Technology, Farm Mechanisation, Engineering and Gamekeeping, along with agricultural apprenticeships and land-based Foundation and Honours degrees and postgraduate qualifications.

Why Hartpury?
Hartpury doesn’t just work with the industry, it is the industry. Bringing theory to life is what we do and 100% of our Agriculture students find work after they leave.

In 2015, Hartpury again ranked as the top specialist land-based college in England for its BTEC courses, with the average grade being a Distinction and students making more progress from their starting points than at any similar college.

Across the estate, the College boasts its own commercial Home Farm with more than 250 milking cows, around 80 calves, 900 sheep and arable land. Our University Land-based Centre set in the heart of our fully working commercial farm leads out to 12 demonstration crop plots, enabling students to take what they have learned and apply it immediately in the field. Other facilities include fisheries, woodland, veal unit, game-rearing and the commercial Home Farm shoot.

Our students have every opportunity to be involved with Home Farm and the wider estate and are able to experience milking, calving, lambing and rearing and observe and assist with veterinary procedures on the farm. Our new farm facility, Okle Clifford, is at the heart of a new farm biodiversity project, offering exceptional opportunities for student research.

Our College level Diplomas cover Agriculture, Land-Based Mechanisation, Agricultural Engineering and Countryside Management, plus we offer agricultural apprenticeships at Level 2 and 3 and a range of professional courses, including tractor driving, chainsaw operation and pesticide application.
And new for September 2017, we’re launching a new Honours degree in Agriculture (subject to validation) with opportunities to study abroad in the USA, New Zealand, Canada or Australia, to gain a wealth of practical and work experience, to benefit from the extensive commercial activities on and off site and to develop groundbreaking research while working in the industry.

Our graduates
Our students have gone on to become farm and estate managers, agronomists, agricultural advisors, sales managers and lecturers, while others have set up really successful businesses. Take Hartpury graduates Tom Mitchell and Aimee Parry for example, who run the Happy Goat Company; breeding and rearing more than 100 goats to produce top quality goat meat, including burgers, sausages and the very popular new goat, apricot and almond tagine. Supplying pubs, restaurants and farmers’ markets but also selling on the internet and at the farm gates, Tom and Aimee’s business is continuing to grow.
