Training is a legal requirement. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), require employers to provide adequate training and to ensure that abrasive wheels are operated only by employees who have received appropriate training in their safe use. If you are self-employed, the regulations still apply.Course objectives:• The features of an abrasive wheel and how to protect yourself.• How to operate your abrasive wheel safely and look after the machine.• How to get best results.• The regulations governing the use of such equipment.• Abrasive Wheels (Operators with some experience)One day Integrated Training and Assessment course covering the following topics:• Protective clothing• The relevant regulations• Awareness of hazards• Characteristics of an abrasive wheel• The marking system• Handling and storage• Inspecting wheels• Performing a ring test• Speed and speed conversion• Identifying components• Mounting an abrasive wheel• Adjusting the work rest• Truing and dressing an abrasive wheel• General safety awarenessPersonal Protective Equipment:Operators of abrasive wheels are strongly advised to wear the following items of personal protective equipment:• Eye protection (NOT standard spectacles)• Ear defenders• Respirators• Overalls• Gloves• Hard Hats (construction industry standard)• Steel toe-capped boots
