Course overview
What You Will Study
Whether your passion lies in zookeeping, veterinary nursing, or working in kennels and catteries, our courses will provide you with the skills and knowledge needed for a dynamic career in the animal care sector.
This technical qualification has been designed by employers to deliver the most up-to-date and relevant technical skills, which combine both theory and practical knowledge with real life work experience. You will explore key areas such as animal health, behaviour, and nutrition within our modern Animal Management Centre. You will develop your practical skills, including cleaning out accommodation, feeding animals, grooming and exercise, health, welfare, behaviour and biology. You will care for a variety of animals including small mammals, reptiles, birds, aquatics, and large livestock, gaining the essential skills required for your chosen career.
The programme of study combines the City and Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Animal Care, with Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths lessons (depending on previous qualifications), work experience and weekend duties.
You will need to buy PPE to use when working with the animals. Details of what is required will be provided at enrolment. You will need to work in all weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors, ensuring our animals are provided with the highest welfare standards.
