This year lays the foundation for both academic understanding and real-world competence.
In your second year, you’ll progress to the Level 3 Technical Extended Diploma, choosing one of two specialist pathways:
Animal Pathway – Ideal for those interested in working with companion animals. You’ll study:
Animal nursing and pet store management
Kennel and cattery operations
Animal behaviour and training
Zoo Pathway – Perfect for aspiring zookeepers or aquarium professionals. You’ll explore:
The care of exotic species including birds, reptiles, and aquatic animals
Zoo operations, customer engagement, and volunteer management
Conservation and education in zoological settings
Both pathways combine academic study with practical experience, including work placements and weekend duties, to prepare you for a wide range of careers in the animal sector.
Students will need to purchase PPE for the Animal Management Centre – full details will be provided at enrolment. You’ll be working in all weather conditions, indoors and outdoors, helping to maintain the highest standards of animal welfare.
