Tests available at DART are Cattle, Sheep, Cattle & Sheep, Horses, Goats, Pigs, Poultry and Game Birds.Qualification Level?This is an NPTC level 2 award in the transport of animals by road.Qualification notesIf you are involved in the transportation of animals by road on short journeys (over 65km and up to 8 hours duration) this qualification will ensure you meet the requirement for a Certificate of Competence outlined in the Council Regulation (EC) No1/2005 on the Protection of Animals During Transport and the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 2006.This qualification is based on short journeys (over 65km and up to 8 hours in transit), however a long journey (over 8 hours in transit) qualification can be arranged. The qualification is species specific (e.g. cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, horses, game birds). Assessment for short journeysYou will be assessed by computer test on the following:• Legal responsibilities• Planning the journey• Vehicle suitability• Checking the fitness to travel• Cause and signs of stress• Space allowances• Stocking densities• Handling and animal welfare in transit• Post journey procedures• Assessment for long journeys• In addition to the criteria for short journeys, you must also take part in a practical observation.
