This course aims to deliver health and safety guidance together with the practical skills required at this level. It is a hands-on training course and we look to keep the group numbers small so that each attendee receives the attention they require from our experienced instructors.The Basic Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-Cutting course delivered by DJ Gemmill is ideal for those seeking an introduction into safely using and maintaining a chainsaw. You will learn the theory of chainsaw maintenance and you’ll also experience first hand how to correctly use a chainsaw in real life scenarios.Course Objectives
Learn about the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), report on its condition and find the standard marks.Understand the health & safety features on a chainsaw.How to prepare a chainsaw for use using fuel/oil mix and chain lubrication.Start the chainsaw in a safe way from both hot and cold.Carry out pre-cutting safety tests.Learn the procedures if these tests fail.Understand the potential hazards and risks of maintaining and operating a chainsaw.State the procedures for organising site safety.Identifying faults and defects on a chainsaw.Learn the routine maintenance you can carry out in accordance with the Lantra or manufacturer workbooks.Cross-cut timber accurately to required lengths.Assess and explain the terms ‘tension’ and ‘compression’ in timber.Who Is This Course For?This course is not suitable for professional users as it is a perfect introduction to the correct ways of handling and maintaining a chainsaw. If you do not require a regulated assessment for a licence to practice then this basic integrated training and assessment course is right for you. Chainsaws are potentially very dangerous items of machinery and could cause serious injury or death, so a minimum level of fitness is required to complete the practical elements of this course.
