Workshop Overview
The Grass Productivity Workshop is a practical, hands-on day focused entirely on understanding how your grassland is performing today — and how to improve it while decreasing costs for farm businesses.
Together with a 3LM Accredited Professional, you will walk three representative fields on your farm:
your best field
your worst field
one in-between
Using simple diagnostic tools, you will assess grass growth, soil condition, plant density, biodiversity, and how well your land is responding to current management.
The goal is straightforward: to give you a clear, accurate picture of what’s happening in your grassland and what steps will deliver the biggest gains.
This workshop is suitable for:
livestock farmers seeking more grass from the same acres/hectares
farmers wanting to reduce dependence on inputs
anyone wanting to improve resilience to droughts, floods, and variable weather
What You’ll Achieve
A clear understanding of current grass performance
Identification of the root causes behind any issues
Practical steps to improve productivity and resilience
A benchmark you can track year to year
Better decisions based on your own field conditions, not assumptions
Greater confidence in how to move your land in the right direction
What You’ll Learn
Assessing Land Health
How to evaluate:
ground cover
litter levels
plant density
biodiversity
soil surface condition
Diagnosing Root Causes
A proven, structured method to uncover why issues are occurring.
Improving Grass Growth
How to identify the most effective actions to boost productivity without costly inputs.
Farm-Specific Recommendations
Clear, practical steps tailored to your land, your stock, and your goals.
How It Works
Hour 1 — Indoors: discussion of your goals, concerns, and current situation.
Hours 2–3 — Field surveys of the three selected paddocks using simple scoring tools.
Hours 4–5 — Diagnosis of root causes and discussion of contributing factors.
Hour 6 — Review findings, answer questions, and agree next steps.
The day may run slightly longer or shorter depending on conditions and questions.
Within one week, you’ll receive a written report summarising findings and recommendations.
Case Example: Trees House Farm
A series of Grass Productivity Workshops at Trees House Farm (Northern England) helped the farmer identify key limiting factors and improve soil cover, plant density, and water infiltration. Over time, the farm saw measurable improvements in grass growth and overall land health.
Certificates
This workshop does not carry a formal certificate. It is a practical, on-farm service designed to help farmers understand and improve grass productivity quickly and effectively.
