Course overview
This course is ideal for those with basic coastal knowledge, or simply an interest in learning more about the UK’s coastlines. You will explore the ecosystem services that habitats provide and how to manage them effectively long term at one of the many beautiful, Essex coastal sites. The Saltmarshes are said to be the UK equivalent of rainforests. Unfortunately, these habitats are declining in size and therefore need our action to protect them. Essex has over 450km of coastline, most of which is supported by seawalls. As sea levels rise, the marsh slowly disappears. These habitats epitomise the Essex coastline and are increasingly valuable habitats for both wildlife and people. Please note, this workshop is field-based, running from 9am to 4pm. Students will meet in the reception area and will need to bring lunch, suitable walking footwear, and weather-appropriate clothing. Additionally, those aged 16 to 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
