What You Will Study
Land Based Service Engineers and Technicians will carry out a range of tasks on machinery, plant and equipment specific to their sector within the industry. Upon completing Year 1 on the Land Based Service Engineer standard, apprentices will progress on to the Technician standard and will build upon their knowledge, skills and behaviours.
The role can include preparing, installing and handing over complex and advanced machinery, plant and equipment, checking performance, diagnosing and repairing complex faults, conducting complex repairs and inspections, and compiling repair proposals, estimates and quotes.
Course content in Years 2-4 of the programme build on the knowledge, skills and behaviours learned in Year 1 and include:
Working on- site, using initiative in a customer- facing role
Mentoring and supervising junior colleagues
Giving advice and guidance to customers about machinery
Learning to diagnose and fault- find, so apprentices can recommend the best course of action to bring machinery/ equipment to operational requirements, according to the manufacturer’s specifications
A choice between the four available pathways (based on the nature of the employer): agricultural equipment, construction and plant equipment, outdoor power equipment, and fixed plant and equipment
