Course overview
Our Level 1 Diploma in Land-based Studies is an excellent way for you to learn the fundamentals behind a land-based education/career, whilst also allowing you to study GCSE maths and/or English.
This is the ideal course if you are keen to explore Agriculture, Horse Care and the Countryside and want to work in the rural industries (with further study), for example as a farm worker, countryside ranger, yard hand or tree surgeon.
You'll gain the perfect foundation for progressing to a number of our Level 2 courses, including Level 2 in Equine Studies, Agriculture or Floristry (subject to meeting entry requirements).
As well as improving your skills with carrying out estate maintenance tasks and working with livestock and horses, you will spend time improving your English and Maths too. To help prepare you for further study or work, you will also develop your skills of working in a group and meeting deadlines.
Highlights of the course include:
Teaching from our caring and expert tutors
The chance to develop your practical skills on our 230-hectare commercial farm, estate and woodlands
The opportunity to progress onto the Level 2 programmes
N.B. The Horse Care elements may involve riding, subject to learner experience and suitability. The agreed maximum rider weight to meet welfare guidelines for the current stock of horses at Moreton Morrell College is 13st 7lbs - this is for a rider dressed in riding attire (boots and riding hat).
