Course overview
This is a hands-on introduction to working in animal care with possible pathways into equine management and agriculture.

You will take part in a variety of exciting practical projects, both on the estate (working with cattle, sheep and horses) and in the animal care unit (working with a variety of animals such as rodents, reptiles and birds). There are educational visits to places such as zoological gardens, wildlife parks, farms, agricultural shows and markets.

This course combines practical and theory-based learning. It provides an ideal introduction to land-based industries, including animal care, agriculture and equine (horse management). It will provide you with the opportunity to gain a variety of transferable skills, such as handling large and small animals, grooming, conducting health checks and estate maintenance.

Course content

You will cover a diverse range of topics throughout your course and units will be selected, where possible, to match the interests of the group. Unit topics may include:

  • Care of Animals

  • Handling, Feeding & Accommodation of Small Animals

  • Wildlife & Conservation

  • Repair & Maintenance of Fencing/ Paths
