Landscaping Plant Machinery Course

The Certificate of Competence aims to assess the operators of excavators and loaders to ensure that they reach the required standard in safe operation of this equipment and are aware of the legal requirements.

This qualification will also prove useful to local authorities, public utility companies and other employers in these sectors to demonstrate operator competence.

The Assessment

The assessment establishes that the candidate has the relevant knowledge and understanding as well as the appropriate skill required for the competent safe use of plant and machinery.

The assessment is divided into three units:

Unit 1 – Pre-Use Safety – Plant Machinery (Compulsory)

Unit 2 – Operate a 180° or 360º Excavator (Optional)

Or Unit 3 – Operate a Loader (Optional)

Candidates must achieve all assessment activities in the appropriate units.

Candidates who hold the NPTC Certificate of Competence in Tractor Driving and Related Operations – Unit 4 is credited with Unit 3 of this qualification – Operate a Loader.

Qualification Endorsement

The qualification will be endorsed either:

a) Plant Machine - 180º Excavator and/or
b) Plant Machine - 360º Excavator and/or
c) Plant Machine – Loader

Candidates seeking qualification endorsement ‘a)' are required to successfully achieve Units 1 and 2.
Candidates seeking qualification endorsement ‘b)' are required to successfully achieve Units 1 and 2.
Candidates seeking qualification endorsement ‘c)' are required to successfully achieve Units 1 and 3.
