Course overview
This fifteen day course is aimed at operators and mechanics with responsibility or an interest in the routine maintenance and repair of machines, tractors and equipment used in the grounds care and associated industries.

Our practical based training will offer participants the ability to reduce servicing costs, machinery down time and is a valuable opportunity to develop skills in routine maintenance and repair.

To ensure the training is appropriate and cost effective participants will be encouraged, with prior arrangement, to work on their own equipment and components.

Optional testing based on traditional knowledge and skills is available but not essential.

Topics covered in the programme are as follows:

Day 1 - Tools, equipment, engine diagnostic, service administration, Health and Safety
Day 2 - Multi Cylinder Diesel Engine
Day 3 - 4 Stroke Petrol Engine
Day 4 - Mechanical transmission systems
Day 5 - Hydraulics
Day 6 - Electrics - Start and charge
Day 7 - Mechanical transmission of power (belts, chains, shafts etc)
Day 8 - Cylinder Mower Cutting Unit - In season settings and repair
Day 9 - Cutting Unit Overhaul (Cylinder, Rotary or Flail)
Day 10 - Cutting Unit Overhaul Continued

Note; where cutting units are not required by the participant, weeks 9 and 10 may be used to develop other areas within the course criteria, i.e. electrics, hydraulics etc

Day 11 - 2 Stroke Engines and Hand-Held Machines
Day 12 - Electrics, Lighting and Control
Day 13 - Basic MIG and Arc Welding
Day 14 - Skills Application Day - Small Machinery
Day 15 - Skills Application Day - Self Propelled Machinery

A Writtle University College Certificate of Attendance will be issued on completion of the course.
