Course overview
To understand legislation relevant to tree climbing. (Safety legislation, tree + wildlife protection)To identify basic equipment required for tree climbing, including conformity and inspection requirements with reference to the LOLER regulations.To understand the principles of work positioning and work positioning systems. (climber attached to tree at all times, maximum allowable slack and fall)To be able to identify a range of equipment to facilitate initial access into the tree crown, Strengths and weaknesses. (e.g. ladder, throwline, rods).To be able to tie a range of knots relevant to tree climbing operations. (attachment knots, friction hitches, stopper knots).To be able to inspect trees to establish whether it is safe to climb.To establish anchor points and perform change overs safely.To ascend the tree to an appropriate final anchor point using techniques conforming to work positioning principles.To carry out branch walks to the outer portions of the tree crown.
