Course overview
PA1 is the first module in the Lantra approved pesticide application training and is a requirement before undertaking any other modules. This module covers the theory and basic legislation for pesticides.The course is designed for spray operators and pest control technicians who require a certificate of competence for pesticide spraying.A one day course to prepare the trainee to take the City and Guilds NPTC PA1 online GOLA assessment which when combined with a successful practical unit qualifies the operator in the legislative qualification Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Pesticides. The PA1 theory assessment is a prerequisite to any practical unit taken.Course Objectives
Identify those key aspects of legislation which apply to the use of pesticidesIdentify the precautions necessary to use a product safely, using product label informationIdentify, select and understand the maintenance and storage of the correct personal protective equipment for use with a particular product as determined by a label and/or COSHH risk assessment. Follow appropriate personal hygiene procedures to prevent personal contamination. Follow the appropriate procedures for dealing with accidental personal contamination.Understand the correct procedures for the storage of pesticides.Understand the correct procedures for the disposal of empty pesticide containers, surplus pesticide and washings.Understand the records that must be kept.Understand the situations where pesticide application may pose a risk to people or the environmentWho Is This Course For?If your job involves the application of pesticides in a commercial role then you are legally required to take this assessment and gain the qualification before you can continue to apply pesticides. This is the foundation module and is required before you can go on to study the other pesticide application modules. Students must be over 16 years old.
