Car Licences obtained before 1 January 1997
All drivers who passed their driving test before 1 January 1997 are entitled to tow a trailer, with their current licence. This means they can drive a vehicle and trailer with a maximum weight combination of 8.25 tonnes, they are also entitled to drive a minibus with a trailer over 750 kgs.
Car Licences obtained after 1 January 1997
If you passed your car driving test after 1 January 1997, you’ll be allowed to tow trailers up to 3,500kg MAM from 15 November 2021.
Our Towing Trailers course offers essential in depth training for the conscientious driver / employer to meet the Health and Safety at Work Act guidelines on the skills required to tow a vehicle safely.
The course includes learning how to:-
hitch and unhitch
check the trailer
check the weight distribution
reverse
make a controlled stop
The course is over a day 6 hours but a half day (3 hrs) is available for refresher training.
