Course overview
The Vocational Pathways course develops students with the skills, qualities and qualifications needed to progress onto Level 1 or Level 2 vocational programmes or into employment.
On this course you will develop transferable skills and qualities such as leadership, effective communication, working with others and supporting your own health and wellbeing. You will participate in a variety of challenging in college and community enterprise projects in order to hone your skills.
By selecting the Animal and Land Based Studies pathway, you will learn the basics of handling and taking care of different kinds of animals including their diet, health and wellbeing.
You will also develop skills and knowledge through a variety of practical sessions at our Taylor Hill Animal Centre with our specialists to support your learning and understanding in this field. You will also spend one day a week learning at our Huddersfield Centre.
This is a flexible course providing a personalised learning experience and opportunity to work on individual targets and focus on areas of development to support next steps the following year.
Alongside your main programme you will also study English and maths, participate in work related activities, follow an enrichment programme and also spend time each week following your chosen vocational pathway.
After you finish the course, you could be offered the chance to transition to a Level 1 programme within the Animal and Land Based department, or another college course of your choosing. A relevant qualification in English and maths will support this transition.
