An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team at Homer Farming near Marlborough, Wiltshire as a Calf rearer / Herdsperson.
We are progressive family farming business, running a multi site dairy and arable farming business. We milk 900 cows between three herds block calving on a grass/forage based diet.
The farm is autumn block calving milking 300 cross bred cows, plus 180 head of youngstock. The dairy is part of a 560 ha mixed dairy and arable farm with over 100 ha assigned to the dairy. The grazing platform is all subdivided into paddocks with excellent track and water infrastructure. We milk twice a day through a waikato 24/48 herringbone parlour with simple in parlour feeding, we have cubical housing for the milkers when needed and loose housing for all youngstock. Calving is done outside with all calves coming into modern rearing facilities.
Your role will be to take responsibility for calf rearing from August through to the end of October, the other times of the year assisting the other herdspersons. Whilst always working together, supporting each other as a team. This will be to assist with milking, yard work, all jobs associated with dairy farming and to help maintain our high cow health and welfare standards.
We are team of around 13 across the business and enjoy working as a team to support each other. There will be opportunities at times of the year to help out at the other dairies or if wanted to help with silage making.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about youngstock, cows and knowledgeable about grazing systems. You will have experience with calf rearing in a block and milking. You will need an eye for detail and willingness to learn.
