we are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic herds person/gfw to join our team on our progressive spring block calving dairy farm in south devon
about us:
- 600 grazing cows
- spring block calving system
- 54 point gea rotary parlour
- all calves retained; dairy heifers reared as replacements and beef calves kept through to finish.
- focused on efficiency and livestock health
the role
you will be a key part of the milking team, responsible for:
- operating and maintaining our parlour
- ensuring excellent parlour hygiene
- monitoring cow health and reporting/identifying any issues
- accurate medicine record keeping
- routine foot trimming and identifying lameness in cows
- assisting with herd management and general farm duties
- grass management and putting up grazing fences
- supporting a smooth and efficient spring calving period.
this role would be suited to someone looking to progress into a more senior role.
the ideal candidate
- previous milking experience
- foot trimming experience
- strong stockmanship and attention to detail
- positive attitude, especially during busy periods
- reliable, hardworking and able to work within a team.
