Organic dairy farm herdsperson job (trainee/college leavers welcome)

location: whenby (12 miles north of york), north yorkshire

job type: permanent; full time; holiday entitlement; pension scheme.

hours: 2 week shift rota. alternate weekends plus weekday off. includes early morning/afternoon milking.

essential criteria: driving licence due to location of the farm.

about us:

we are a well-established, multi-site and family run dairy business. we are contracted with arla foods uk and we are looking for a new team member. the farm consists of a 350 spring calving herd milked twice a day in a herringbone swingover parlour. we welcome applications from candidates with varying levels of experience - training on our systems and processes will be provided. we are committed to a supportive working environment, animal welfare and responsible land stewardship. this role is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build a long-term career in agriculture, with development and progression prospects across our three farms.

role:

•milking: ensure safe and calm environment; preparation; carry out the milking process in line with cow status; wash down, clean, and reset.

•stockmanship/general livestock care: distributing feed; carry out daily herd observations; support basic health/welfare checks; maintain bedding/cow comfort.

•cleaning and maintenance: of the dairy, equipment, and farmyard; maintain hygiene standards; carry out scraping and routine yard cleaning.

•machinery: carry out telehandler work in support of daily and seasonal farm operations.

•assist with calving and calf rearing as required.
