"As farmers we are good at talking about farming and agriculture, but in order to promote our work to the public we must talk more about the wonderful food that we produce, food is what resonates with everyone".
This was the message from NFU Deputy President, Minette Batters at the recent Brecon & Radnor NFU Cymru county meeting.
Minette continued: "We produce a fantastic product and we need to do more to communicate this to Government, to the supply chain and to consumers, by using real farmers to tell the real story behind food production."
During her presentation, the Deputy President also spoke about her role of representing the NFU on behalf of the UK at the World Farmers Organisation and concluded with the strong message, that members are the most important part of the NFU.
Colin Millichap, Brecon & Radnor NFU Cymru County Chairman said: "These are challenging times at the moment, all commodities are suffering, but we have a good story to tell and I agree with Minette that selling our food production stories will help to sell our products."
NFU Cymru President, Stephen James, was also present at the county meeting and gave an NFU Cymru update; he informed members that the immediate priority was to meet with Lesley Griffiths AM, the recently appointed Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs, to discuss the Key Asks that were outlined in NFU Cymru’s National Assembly Manifesto for a Productive, Profitable, Progressive Welsh Agricultural Industry.
