Amendments to gangmasters licensing standards

The Association of Labour Providers (ALP) is rolling out a series of free roadshow seminars nationwide to alert labour providers to the impact of a new set of regulatory challenges.

On the 1st April 2009 the Gangmaster’s Licensing Authority (GLA) will introduce significantly amended Licensing Standards requiring labour providers to implement new processes to maintain compliance. The HMRC also has new inspection and enforcement powers from 1st April 2009.

Explaining the decision to launch the seminar programme, David Camp, ALP Director said:

"Labour providers in the GLA licensed sector face a higher regulatory focus than almost any other UK industry sector.

"Our roadshow seminars will bring labour providers up to date on recent and forthcoming developments and advise on the most effective steps to take to ensure compliance."

The seminars are taking place in London (25 March), Grantham (26 March), Taunton (31 March), Birmingham (1 April), Leeds (22 April) and Perth (23 April).

Attendance is free for GLA licensed labour providers but places are strictly limited.

In a further development, ALP has formed a panel of UK-wide legal and professional specialists with experience in advising the labour provider sector.

The panel - ALP Legal Support Services - consists of a range of advisers including barristers’ chambers, Exchange Chambers, solicitors, Cobleys, accountants Grant Thornton and insurance and risk management specialists Lockton.

The ALP Legal Support Service and ALP Insurance Scheme will be formally launched during the upcoming roadshows.
