Just as the farmers were calming down, and meetings have been scheduled between government ministers and farmers for Tuesday, President Christina Fernandez de Kirchner who has been locked into a year long dispute with farmers over export duties, on Thursday reaffirmed that the farmers were the only economic sector of Argentina, who can afford not to sell their product.

The President was referring to the nine million tons of soy, that the government claims the farmers are holding waiting for a better price.

Farmers claim that the unsold stock is in fact six million tons, and they are not selling because of the government tax on exports.

The President is still claiming the government of the United States and the farmers are trying to topple her, and the American ambassador has tried to explain away the remarks of the CIA chief in relation, to Argentina and the turmoil.

ONCCA the government agency for agricultural exports and the beef industry is also coming under fire from the farmers, in relation to making export permits difficult to obtain for grain and beef.
