Argentina-The Stolen Generation.
THE STOLEN GENERATION.
The History Channel in Argentina, has shown a documentary about the 30,000 people who went missing between 1976 and 1983.
According to researchers, some 30,000 went missing during Argentina’s darkest hour, chased by military death squads, from the missing who called themselves subversives, some 500 of their sons and daughters were kidnapped by soldiers, most of them today are still unaware of who their parents are, having been sold into illegal adoption.
The program highlights the horrors of the CIA backed Military Junta, and the efforts of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo to locate the missing children.
Elizabeth Basualdo, who is a director of Argentine Beef Packers SA, was born in prison on 19 October 1976, then adopted as a baby.
The Grandmothers located her real family in early 2008, they have been reunited.
Elizabeth said, "this was a miracle, I have two brothers and a sister that I did not know existed, my father died in prison, after being tortured and murdered, he was a butcher who dared to voice his opinion against the military, my mother survived and thought that I had died at birth, she was also tortured, today we are re-united after 32 years".
This is the chapter in history that has cause much of the anti American feeling in Argentina, the president herself and her husband were living in hiding from the military.
