BULLS sold to $6500 at Pinora Angus at Heyfield in Gippsland today, as local buyers backed the stud’s 41st annual sale

The 35 bulls sold from 45 offered for an average of $3338. The clearance was back on last year’s result, when all 45 bulls offered had sold, but the average was on a par, which pleased co-principal John Sundermann.

The top-priced bull was bought by Kathleen and Richard Telling of Woodside, who bought three bulls in all.

The bull, Pinora Cain, sired by USA Foreman 016, had figures in the top 20 per cent of the breed for growth.

Mr Sundermann said the sale was "very pleasing considering the conditions".

"It was good to have the depth of buyers here too," he said.

With only a handful of clients buying more than one bull each, the sale was well supported by the Gippsland locals, many of whom commented that they would like to buy several but the seasonal conditions, and their reduced cow numbers, prevented them.

Father and daughter team Wayne and Courtney Ferguson, from Longford, bought three bulls, each at $4000. Courtney has recently returned home from study to run the farm with her family.

Lindsay and Helen Wigg of Maffra were among the many repeat buyers, and this year bought one bull, for $4500, for their herd of 70 cows.

Other locals, Clynn and Kevin Lord, of Heyfield, took home one bull, for $3000. "Its the first year we’re bought here," Ms Lord said.

"We normally attend this one, but like to take it in turns buying from the three Angus studs in the area.
