Australia-Family sue Kentucky Fried Chicken.

AUSTRALIA-FAMILY SUE KFC.

The parents of a Sydney girl are suing a branch of KFC for $10 million after their daughter was crippled and brain damaged by salmonella poisoning.

Monika Samaan, 11, her mother, father and then 11-year-old brother were rushed to hospital in 2005 after they all shared a Chicken Twister from the Villawood KFC.

The girl’s condition worsened into quadriplegia, intellectual disability and liver dysfunction.

News Ltd reports that on the night of October 24, 2005 the then seven-year-old Monika shared her KFC Chicken Twister with her elder brother and parents.

The next morning the four fell ill, experiencing vomiting and diarrhoea.

Monika’s grandmother - who was with them the night before, but hadn’t eaten the Twister - wasn’t ill.

Yum! Restaurants Australia says testing has cleared KFC of any link to the case.

"At the time Monika fell ill no other customers at the store lodged any complaints. We have a comprehensive food safety system in place which exceeds the Australian standards, our chicken is delivered fresh into store, and it is cooked in electronically controlled cookers, which is an extremely safe form of cooking," spokesman Nick Bryden said in a statement.
