Be aware of farm fuel thefts
Farmers are being warned about the increasing incidences of on-farm fuel thefts by Dyfed-Powys Police and NFU Cymru.
John Mercer, NFU Cymru Policy Adviser and member of the Rural Crime Partnership said, “Members of the public will be only too aware of the increases in fuel prices at the pumps. Unfortunately, this has a knock on effect of making the theft of fuel, especially diesel, a more attractive proposition.”
Dyfed-Powys police are keen to prevent and detect fuel theft and other crimes and are giving farmers this advice:
If you have a diesel tank, ensure it remains secure using an appropriate locking device.
Report suspicious vehicles / persons seen in the vicinity of diesel tanks immediately to the police and, if it is safe to do so, obtain the registration number of such vehicles.
On a smaller scale, but just as important, ensure you have a functional locking fuel cap on your vehicle.
PC Jaqueline Heighway of Dyfed-Powys police said, “There have been incidents of diesel theft in Powys in the last month, some of which have involved large quantities and would have required a small tanker or ‘fluid pallets’. We are encouraging anybody with any information on such crimes to come forward.”
