Beef farmers hope for more from province

Having heard Friday there will be no cash from the federal government, P.E.I. beef producers will meet Tuesday to learn what the province may have to offer.

The P.E.I. Cattlemen's Association presented a plan to help producers to the government to help cattle producers through a difficult time. Officials with the Department of Agriculture say the province has come back to the association with a counter offer.

"We are going to present an update to P.E.I. beef producers on our negotiations with government on the beef initiative on the plan that we presented on February 18th," said past president Darlene Sanford.

"We'll talk about where we are right now."

Part of the beef initiative was a payment of $200 per head of cattle. There were also plans for improving breeding stock.
