Blight risk high for coming days

Potato growers in Yorkshire face an unprecedented forecast of five continuous days of full smith period blight risk infection this week, according to Syngenta BlightCAST (see image below).

The BlightCAST web site also shows growers there are just a few spraying opportunities - late this afternoon (Tuesday), Wednesday afternoon and early Thursday morning.

Syngenta Potato Manager, Tom Whitworth reports that with all the showers around, the rainfast properties of Revus - safely locked onto the leaf within minutes - and the outstanding protection of new leaf growth as crops respond rapidly to the rain will be more important than ever. "Many other areas across the UK are also facing very high blight pressure," he warns.
