BRAZIL.

ENVIRONMENTALISTS.

The expanding cattle industry of the Brazilian rural sector, has the environmentalists up in arms yet again. They are claiming that Brazil is losing 1.8 million hectares of Amazon forests a year, to the cattle industry.

The Meat Exporters Association, reply that they can double the present cattle herd from 90 million to 180 million head of cattle, without the need to cut one more tree. The new allegations come after the World Bank, have approved finance for Brazil to update its existing meat plants and abattoirs, in keeping with international requirements.

The government has dismissed the claims from the environmental group Amigos da Terra,

who are based in San Paulo as ludicrous and alarmist, stating that the government has been working on conserving the Amazon Rain forests, for the last three years.
