FEEDLOT EXPANSION.

Brazilian feedlots have expanded by 20% for 2008, which is below the average growth of 23pc for the last 5 years.

The price of store cattle for finishing, has gone up by 47pc from last year.

Many of the feedlots with capacity of up to 100,000 head of cattle, are controlled by the beef companies or assisted financially by them.

The cattle are finished on silage and sugar cane or silage and sorghum.


There are 40 million cattle per year slaughtered in Brazil, of which 10pc are lot fed cattle, which is opening new markets in Japan and Singapore as well as Hong Kong, for Brazilian beef
