BRAZIL-THE PORK CRISIS.

The porcine influenza surge is to have an impact in Brazilian meat processing companies, particularly JBS Friboi that gets 14% of its net income from the pork meat filial in the us. The company issued a report saying the consumption of pork meat is not related to the influenza, and keeps forecasts for the 2009 sales. In 2008 JBS processed 12.5 million swine in the US, up 4,2% from 2007, with most of the output directed to the domestic market, and exports generating $391USmil out of total sales of $2US.43bil. Another company to be hindered by the influenza is Marfrig, which has 4% of its overall income from pork meat.
