British produce is the best - so lets shout about it!
"Britain produces the best food in the world and as farmers we must all be responsible for informing the public as to why our produce is the best and that it is produced to the highest standards," Peter Kendall, NFU Deputy President, informed local members at the Glamorgan County Conference.
The Grove Golf Club, Cornelly, was packed with local NFU Cymru members to hear Mr Kendall, an arable farmer from Bedfordshire, speak about his optimism for the future of farming, but, reminded the farmers present to be ready for the challenges the Single Payment Scheme will inevitably bring.
Mr Kendall said, "The new Single Payment Scheme is an opportunity for us as farmers to build a relationship with the consumers and explain how British farmers produce the best food in the world. There are rainforests being pulled down in order to produce a cheaper product to import to this country and we must inform the public of this."
Mr Kendall also listened to local members' concerns on current topics with the issue of fallen stock being a particularly big issue. Members told Mr Kendall how they thought the scheme was nonsense.
The County Conference was the last meeting for Mr John Lougher as NFU Cymru Chairman for Glamorgan. He officially handed over the Chairmanship to Rob Rees who said he would do all he could to develop farming in the county.
