Building better red businesses

A SUSTAINABLE future for the whole red meat supply chain is the goal of the Red Meat Industry Forum. And the progress made towards that goal will be outlined at a major London conference in November. The RMIF has spent the last year looking at every aspect of the supply chain and identifying ways to improve competitiveness.

Now the speakers at the event, on November 6 at the QE II Centre, will be passing on their experience for the benefit of all. Those speakers include farmers and business managers from processors, supermarkets and the foodservice sector. RMIF Chairman Peter Barr said: "The Red Meat Industry Forum has achieved its first objective which was recovery of the market. We now wish to present our second objective which is to improve the competitiveness and financial well-being of our industry.

"I can assure you this is not a talking shop. Real practical solutions will be presented to assist the industry in dealing with the challenges for the future. "I am delighted with the support from right across the industry and hope everyone with a stake in the industry will take the opportunity to attend the event." The conference will be chaired by Michael Buerk and the speakers will come from all sections of the industry as well as the retail sector (Tesco, Sainsburys, ASDA and Waitrose) together with foodservice (Whitbread and MacDonalds).
