An investigation has been launched after a farmer died in a huge gas explosion in Cambridgeshire.

The Health and Safety Executive is currently investigating the fatal blast after emergency services were called to reports of a loud blast at a workshop.

A man, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the industrial premises in Puddock Road, Warboys.

A shocked member of staff at a nearby car valeting business, Warman Detailing, told Cambridge News: "The guy was a random farmer and he died because of a gas explosion.

"The poor guy had a gas explosion in his workshop and unfortunately he died. The guy happened to be working in his workshop - he was a nice chap."

A spokesman for fire investigators from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the explosion was "accidental".

A police spokesman confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances after officers were called to the scene in the outskirts of the village at 8.15am on Friday (April 21).

A Health and Safety Executive probe into the incident was launched after an investigation by Cambridgeshire Constabulary was completed on Friday.
