Canada-Meat plant closure.

The Northwest Premium Meat Cooperative is temporarily closing its Telkwa slaughterhouse and meat processing facility. The co-op’s board wants time to restructure its long-term debt, in order to generate additional working capital. The shutdown will take effect April 30th, and 13 employees have been laid off.

During the shutdown, the Board of Directors will review plans to expand distribution beyond the Bulkey Valley. The board will work with creditors, shareholders and potential investors to put together the resources needed to get the Co-op back to producing locally inspected meat products as soon as possible.
