Expansion into Saskatchewan means animals owned by La Broquerie-Based Hytek will no longer head south for raising.

Denis Vielfaure explains they have purchased 40 thousand finishing spaces in eastern Saskatchewan with the intent of moving their hogs from barns in the U.S. to facilities in Saskatchewan.

He adds they figured it was a good opportunity for their company when the farms came up for sale late last year, especially with with the uncertainty surrounding American country of origin labeling legislation.

The animals will be processed at Hytek’s Neepawa Plant.
