CMA promoting UN farming changes

The Border Rivers-Gwydir Catchment Management Authority (CMA) says it is already promoting measures identified in a new United Nations' report that calls for changes to farming practices to combat increases in food prices.

The UN report says more natural and ecological farming techniques to be used and a reduction in the distance between production and the consumer.

The report says 60 countries signed up to the document but Australia refused, citing concerns over trade.

But the CMA's general manager, Lisa Roberts, says it has already started down the path with incentive funding for on-ground works to improve farm sustainability.
